Marian References In The New Testament

There are several biblical references that Christians, particularly Catholics, take as references to the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. One of the most prominent is found in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 1, verses 26-38, which tells the story of the Annunciation. In this passage, the angel Gabriel appears to Mary and tells her that she has been chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus. Mary responds with humility and faith, saying, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word."
